Volgograd stands on the beautiful Volga.
The town is about four hundred years old. The rapid development of industry and
trade, river and railway transport in the 19th century led to the intensive
growth of the city. During the Civil War of 1918 - 1920 the city on the Volga
became the scene of decisive battles in the fight for the victory of the
Revolution in our country. The Great Patriotic War of 1941 -1945 earned the
city the immortal glory of a hero-city.
