Daniel and Kate both work from home. Read the text and choose the

Daniel: So how long have you worked
from home?
Kate: about eight years now. What
about you?
Daniel: Only for a couple of months.
Why did you decide to work from home? Was it when you had your son?
Kate: No? I was already working
from home when my son was born. Actually, I started working from home as a
freelance writer because I got an offer to write a geography book. Before that,
I was working as a teacher but it was tiring. The writing job wasn’t well paid,
but it seemed interesting, so I decided to quit teaching and do it. After that
project, I applied for other jobs, and luckily the work kept coming. What about
you?
Daniel: Oh, I started working from
home because the company I work for was losing money. They had to downsize. A
few of my colleagues lost their jobs. The company moved to a smaller building.
I could only keep my job if I agreed to work from home, so I did.
Kate: Do you enjoy it?
Daniel: Not really. I miss chatting
to people, joking around, or deciding at the last minute to go for a drink or
dinner after work. Just chatting to colleagues, we found things we had in
common. I started playing badminton with one girl and played cards in the
evenings with some others. But they’ve lost their jobs and moved away now. New
people have started work at the company, but I don’t get to know them like I
did in the past.
Kate: Yes, I can see that’s a
problem.
Daniel: Is it the same for you?
Kate: Not really. As a teacher, I
was always too tired or too busy to socialize much with colleagues. Now I’m
busy, but I’m not as tired. That means I have enough energy to spend time with
people. Of course, I spend time with my family, but I’m also going to an art
class at the moment and I’ve met a couple of great ladies there, and we often
meet up for drinks and chat. Maybe you should do something like that too.
Daniel: Maybe I should.
