used by ‘plugging in’ an appliance into a socket using
a plug. You switch on the socket to use it and
you switch off when you have finished.

wire up the building, so lights can be controlled from a light switch.
Table lamps are
generally switched on at the lamp itself which
is plugged into a socket on the wall.
The lights work
because they have light bulbs. When light bulbs
are exposed to electricity, they glow.
Light bulbs are sold
by how many watts they consume: 40, 60, or 100. Today we have energy saving bulbs that use a lot less electricity
than traditional ones.
