How does the router determine that the incoming packet should be routed?

  • All packets arriving at the router need to be routed
  • Each packet is routed, the sender's address is in the routing table
  • Takes every second packet
  • The frame arrives at the router (the MAC addresses are the same), but the packet is not intended for it (IP addresses are different)
